“Exceptional student leaders are invited to apply for the 2014 GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program. In honor of the legacy and character of President Ronald Reagan, this program annually rewards up to 20 college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with $10,000 renewable scholarships (up to $40,000 per recipient). Like President Reagan, candidates use the formative experiences of their youth to lead, serve, and pursue a life of progress, both individually and for their communities.

OLI Community Service Project

We are very excited to announce a new aspect to OLI 2013: The Ronald McDonald House Outreach Project! The State Officers from all CTSOs (DECA, FBLA, SkillsUSA, HOSA, and FCCLA) want to contribute to the communities hosting the Oregon Leadership Institute and chose the Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald House of Bend, Oregon, provides a “home away from home” for families traveling to and from medical treatment for their children. This home provides a place to stay, meals for the families and activities for siblings of patients, during their medical procedures.

“New Hope for HIV Vaccine” – NY Times

In a recent article published in the New York Times, Donald McNeil Jr. writes about the recent advances in HIV/AIDS research that are occurring in Oregon. Dr. Louis Picker, a scientist at the Oregon Health & Science University has developed a new vaccine that may be able to cure AIDS. This amazing research is taking place right here in our home state! We are capable of incredible things, and the wonderful opportunities that HOSA presents us with can help us achieve these things. We Are Getting Excited!

On December 13th through the 15th, the Oregon HOSA officers got together at the beautiful Portland Doubletree Hotel to start planning out the State Leadership Conference! We were excited to all be there, and we also enjoyed the company of FCCLA, FBLA, and SkillsUSA officers as we were trained on professionalism, script writing, and speaking in order to prepare for this upcoming conference.
