Competitive Event Schedules

COMPETITIVE EVENT SCHEDULES

Managing Conflicts

There may be conflicts between different competitive events.  We recommend the following for competitors with conflicts:

  • If possible, try to switch time slots with members of your own chapter to make your schedule work.
  • Be certain to keep your appointment times for HOSA Bowl and Medical Spelling, as these cannot change.
  • If you still have conflicts, please report to your competitive event at the very beginning of the competition and work with the Event Facilitator to see if they can help you manage your conflict.
  • Conflicts should only be managed if your competition conflicts with another competition.  We cannot accommodate changes for other personal commitments.  You may manage personal conflicts within your own chapter, but do not expect Event Facilitators to change the schedule due to commitments outside of HOSA.

Schedule Changes

If you plan to make any changes (like switching places with another competitor or dropping an event), please report these to stateadvisor@oregonhosa.org so that we can update our master schedules.

CareerSafe Scholarship Opportunity!

by Oregon HOSA

CareerSafe is excited to announce a new scholarship opportunity for students that have completed one of the OSHA 10-Hour training courses. Students are encouraged to write an essay describing how their OSHA 10-Hour card has made an impact in the way they recognize hazards and how it will be a benefit to their future. Up to two (2) winners will be selected each quarter to receive a $500 scholarship!

To date, over 237,000 students have received an OSHA 10-Hour wallet card through CareerSafe’s Online OSHA 10-Hour Training courses. Together we are making a difference to reduce the risk of injury to young workers.

Phillip Cronin, a teacher from Southeast Polk High School, Pleasant Hill, Iowa, says that he believes that safety is the most important thing he teaches, and feels that OSHA safety training is an additional avenue to drive home that importance.“Employers can teach them skills specific for a job, but imbedding safety awareness in their lives if they are using it at work or at home…that’s the most important thing we can teach them [as educators],” explains Cronin.

Not only can an OSHA 10-hour training course provide valuable safety lessons for students, but also, it makes them eligible for the new $500 scholarship opportunity provided by CareerSafe.

More information about the scholarship opportunity, along with the official rules can be found on the CareerSafe website. Have your students register today! http://www2.careersafeonline.com/e/62642/olved-139-safety-essay-contest/4l22/8244245

ARTICLE FROM KEZI.COM (ABC 9 NEWS)

by Chenue Her

Published November 8, 2014

health careers daySPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Nearly 100 high school students are learning about healthcare professions on Saturday. Sacred Heart at RiverBend hosted a health careers day.

Students from some lane county high schools spent the day listening to different healthcare workers speak and give presentations on the variety of jobs within the field.

Coordinators say the students learned about what the field looks like now and how it will look in the future.

“What careers are in high demand in healthcare and the projected job growth? The demand for healthcare workers in Lane County is projected to grow 31 percent by 2020,” said Jane Golden, coordinator with Lane Healthcare Pathways.

Coordinators say they plan on having a similar event in the near future for Lane County middle schoolers.
